Natural Scorpion Repellent with Essential Oils
Scorpions in Texas are no joke, especially after moving into one of the first homes completed in a new development. We found our first (and last) scorpion in our home shortly after moving in and immediately searched for the best way to keep them at bay naturally.
A quick search yields Cedarwood, Lavender, and Peppermint essential oils as the place to start — essentials we always keep on hand — and since Cedarwood was most noted for also killing scorpions, I doubled its ratio in the recipe.
We began spraying the bottoms of doors, windowsills, drains and around where all plumbing connects to the walls. We’ve yet to see another scorpion inside our home despite many being spotted outside as each phase of construction begins to disrupt their homes around us. When I spot them outside, I spray them directly which paralyzes them and kills them before they can make it into the house.
Feel free to substitute plain vodka for the witch hazel, you just want something that will help emulsify the oils and evaporate on application to leave the oils behind.
The best part? This recipe is non-toxic and safe for children and animals. No worrying about them coming in contact with it once sprayed and you don’t have to lock up harsh chemicals under the sink. Win, win.
